Produced in a blue cotton pique and cut to a regular fit with a knitted flat collar and straight hem, our Libertas Polo features an embroidered 1886 – representative of the year of the Statue of Liberty’s dedication – on the sleeves. At the chest, the ‘Libertas’ Lady Liberty holds shackles in her left hand as originally intended by sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi to commemorate the end of slavery; a monument intentionally built to celebrate emancipation, relocated to her feet and obscured before completion following American funders’ rejection of Bartholdi’s vision.
